Renault Estafette Concept: The Ultimate Electric Van for Urban Professionals

E-commerce has driven exponential growth in freight transport, and with tightening traffic restrictions in city centres, delivery professionals, tradespeople, and retailers are finding that their needs will soon outgrow conventional vans. Renault Group, in collaboration with its partners in Flexis, is using the new FlexEVan platform to create its vision of the next dream utility vehicle, 65 years after the Estafette revolutionised the van universe. The specifications are based on professionals’ feedback, with the primary goals being the safety of drivers and goods, and ensuring swift loading and unloading.

The Estafette Concept shares much more with Renault’s iconic 1959 van than just its jovial round headlamps. Both are radically innovative and practical, designed to make life easier for delivery drivers, tradespeople, and retailers. The original Estafette was the first Renault vehicle to place the entire powertrain at the front, freeing up space behind for loading. The new Estafette 4.0, featuring the FlexEVan electric platform, is set to transform the utility vehicle landscape with its compact yet spacious design and unparalleled convenience and safety features.

The Estafette Concept’s exterior design aims to change the way people perceive vans in cities, making them endearing and expressive with eye-catching pop colours. Its footprint is comparable to that of the Kangoo L2, but it is significantly taller, allowing the driver to move effortlessly between the cockpit and cargo area. The van features pocket sliding side doors and a rear shutter that opens up the van’s full height, enhancing convenience and safety. Inside, the cockpit is ultra-ergonomic with a high-tech, modular dashboard, and the cargo area is designed for maximum functionality and security.
