The new Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric was officially unveiled today at the 2024 Paris Motor Show. Just as the original Renault 4 responded to its time’s challenges, the new Renault 4 E-Tech is a retro-futuristic reinvention reflecting Renault’s commitment to accelerating the energy transition.
The front grille, inspired by the original Renault 4, is made from a single 1.45m-long piece and is unique in the industry, with its continuous and illuminated surround perfectly framing the Renault logo at its centre. At the rear, the original’s iconic three-part lights have modern lines and a distinctive LED signature. Other design nods to the original include the bonnet lines, the shape of the rear quarter window, the sculpted lines in the doors, and the distinctive forms in the roof, now adorned with roof bars.
An electric canvas roof brings the spirit of the outdoors into the cabin, opening at the touch of a button or by voice control to reveal an 80x92 cm view of the sky. When closed, its lining delivers excellent acoustic and sealing qualities with no trade-off in weight or headroom. An exclusive new color, Hauts-de-France Green, pays tribute to the Île-de-France Blue of the 1960s, joining six other stylish shades. Two-tone options ensure there is a Renault 4 E-Tech for everyone.
Larger than the Renault 5, the Renault 4 E-Tech offers impressive interior space thanks to its extended 2.62m wheelbase. At 4.14m in length, rear seat occupants benefit from 16.4cm of knee room, while headroom of 85.3cm is particularly generous for a B-segment vehicle. The dual horizontal screens give the cabin a contemporary look. The central 10-inch multimedia screen can feature the award-winning OpenR Link system with Google built-in, providing access to a range of Google services and apps.
First seen on the Renault 5, Reno – the virtual travelling companion – is also present on the Renault 4 E-Tech, supporting customers throughout their ownership experience. The car offers 420 litres of boot space, revealed by the power tailgate. Various ingenious touches such as lashing hooks, bag hooks, rubber bands to hold objects in place, and clever storage compartments, including a 35-litre underfloor area, make everyday life a breeze for busy families.
Built on the same AmpR Small platform as the R5, the Renault 4 E-Tech continues the original’s sense of go-anywhere practicality, with increased ground clearance. The suspension has been optimised for a smoother ride, while the steering system has been revised for easier driving in city streets.
Two powertrains are available. The 52 kWh battery, weighing less than 300kg, powers a 110 kW electric motor, offering a range of up to 250 miles. A 40 kWh battery is also available, coupled to an 80 kW motor, providing a range of up to 186 miles. Both are equipped with a heat pump for efficiency, bidirectional charging, and a 100 kW DC charger, allowing for rapid charging. The Renault 4 E-Tech will feature the new One Pedal function, optimising regenerative braking for smoother deceleration.
Advanced driving aids enhance safety and comfort, including rear occupant safe exit alert, adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, and hands-free parking. My Safety Shield allows drivers to activate preferred settings at the touch of a button.
The Renault 4 E-Tech is built at Maubeuge in the ElectriCity complex, with the electric motor manufactured in Cléon and the battery assembled in Ruitz. 75% of suppliers are within a 190-mile radius of the factory. 26.4% of all materials are from the circular economy, and the seat fabric of Techno and Iconic trim levels is made from 100% recycled fibres. The car has an overall recyclability of 88.6%. It is planned to arrive in the UK in mid-2025, with specifications and prices to be announced earlier in 2025.
