Megane E-Tech Electric: Sustainable Production

The All-New Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is paving the way toward carbon-free mobility.
The car is designed at being readily recyclable at the end of its life cycle, for a sustainable future.

The All-New Megane E-Tech Electric is assembled in Douai, in Northern France, in which hundreds of vehicles are sent down the production lines each day. Production relies on local supply chains and uses as much recycled material as possible in an effort to substantially reduce the EV's carbon footprint.

Aluminium is used for numerous body parts on the Megane which helps reduce its overall weight, increasing the range efficiency. Leftover materials can be recycled back into the production lines. For example, leftover offcuts of aluminium sheets are shipped back to the original supplier and are sorted, and reformed into usable sheets which are then sent back to the factory.

Aluminium offcuts represent about 40% of volumes used to stamp parts thanks to their 100% recycling, we are implementing a circular economy while maintaining the quality of the material. We come full circle in a loop that is environmentally friendly and economically sound!

Inside the New Megane, parts such as the dashboard, centre console, headrests and carpets are made using recycled materials. Each car has no less than 28kg of recycled plastic which further helps Renault in reaching its carbon footprint goals. By 2030 Renault Group aims to use 33% recycled materials on all of its vehicles across the range.

Renault is constantly observing its environmental impacts and trialling new methods of reaching sustainability. One promising project is the recycling of metals which are used to produce batteries, which will be used to make new batteries at the Douai Gigafactory that will open in 2024.

According to the European directive of homologation recycling 2005/64/EC, the All-New Megane E-Tech Electric is 90% recyclable, marking the beginning of a new era in the sustainable production of electric vehicles.
